About Ajman

With a land area of only 260 sq. km., Ajman is the smallest of the seven emirates and is centrally located on the western coast of the UAE, along the Persian Gulf. It is bordered to the south by Sharjah and to the north by Umm Al-Quwain.
.
In 1820, Sheikh Rashid Bin Humayd Al Nuaimi signed the General Maritime Treaty with Britain, accepting a protectorate to keep the Ottoman Turks out. On 2 December 1971, Sheikh Rashid Bin Humayd Al Nuaimi joined the United Arab Emirates.
.
Ajman controls two small inland enclaves - Masfut and Manama.  Masfut is situated about 110 km southeast, near Hatta, and known for its agriculture and the yellow-flowering farfar trees.  Masfut is also noted for its vibrant marble and is bordered by the Hajar mountains creating a picturesque backdrop.
.
Manama — meaning “sleeping place” — is 60 km. south off the Dhaid and Masafi highway,  and has a small fort.
.
The city lies down at a small creek of 16 km length to the northeast of Sharjah. The Ajman city itself is a shopper’s destination with about 50 international and local retail shops.  With marina developments, shopping malls and a variety of projects under way Ajman is becoming a destination of choice.
.
The population of the emirate was 121,491 in 1995. Its population growth can be attributed to the influx of people from the neighboring emirates of Dubai and Sharjah, and other countries. Approximately 95% of the population of the emirate resides in the city of Ajman.
.
Among the main tourist attractions in the emirate are:
Fort Dowar Al Hosn Museum - used to be the ruler's residence until 1970, the museum houses an interesting archaeological collection found in nearby Mowaihat.
Ajman Corniche – also known for small restaurants and cafés overlooking the sea.
Long expanse of powdery white sand beach, stretching for almost 20 miles and situated along the Persian Gulf coast.
Ajman's dhow yard - one of the most active in the region and builders still use indigenous tools in dhow making.
.
The emirate’s natural harbour hosts one of the largest ship repairing companies while Ajman Port offers the best facilities for business, import and export, as well as an industrial free zone.
.
Ajman is currently the only emirate offering foreign investors a fully transparent true 100% freehold ownership on real estate. Hence it has created an invigorating business climate for investments, and prompted the Ajman government to endeavor on a number of development projects.  It is also keen over its new developments and projects which include:

“Emirates City” - a brand new city located directly on the Emirates Road.
Ajman International Airport - hosting about two million passengers every year;  construction begins in 2008 in the Al Manama area of the Ajman, while airport operations expected to commence in 2011.
.
Ajman is witnessing a boom in the real estate sector, making it the up-and-coming alternative residential and business investment destination in the UAE.
