Saadiyat Island – Abu Dhabi: Cultural Lagoon
One of the 200 natural islands situated near UAE in the Arabian Gulf it is an island sanctuary off the coast of Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat – which translates as ‘island of happiness’ is the emirate’s flagship development. Laying to the north east of Abu Dhabi city it occupies an area of 27 square kilometers. Building it for modern living the island will house 150000 residents approx. It is a flagship project undertaken by the tourism development & Investment Company. It is just 500 meters offshore the United Arab Emirate’s capital city and developing as a strategic international tourism destination. The Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), which will oversee Saadiyat’s mixed-use development, will operate along strictly commercial lines, selling land to private investors who will then develop their plots in accordance with the master plan, supporting planning regulations and design guidelines to create a new residential and tourism environment.
This tropical island and a tourist destination will have be having one light rail transport facility to down town Abu Dhabi and one freeway with ten lanes connected by a bridge. This transit solution will provide a 25 Km 5 minutes drive to the Abu Dhabi. The development authorities and Abu Dhabi Government is also interested in keeping the island’s environment green with water and energy conservation solutions. The island is planned and will develop in seven unique districts each having a unique theme and architecture. Cultural District, Saadiyat Beach, South Beach, The Wetlands, Island Lagoons, Al Marina and Eco-Point will be the seven districts of Saadiyat Island.
Cultural District - A Heaven of Elegance:
The fabulous interior, endless waters and beautiful beaches are all here on Cultural District. But top notch, creative and brilliant architects are hired to design four landmarks of Cultural District which will become the signature of this island.

Saadiyat Beach – A Touch of Elegance:
The district with 433 hectares of area and warm breeze and panoramic views of Arabian Gulf fringed by white sands. The place for rich and famous, from around the world, having privacy and luxury. International tourist destination offering 9 km of beach with tropical style, beach clubs, golf course and five star hotels.
South Beach – The Family Resort:
A family destination for fun and leisure to set sails of bright colors in the breezy waters of Arabian Gulf. It is the district with 268 hectare of area offering boardwalks with restaurants and cafes, a dynamic beach life style and lots of leisure and entertainment stuff.
The Wetlands – The Eco Destinations:
A contrast to Saadiyat Beach it is designed around the tidal flats that flood championship golf course. This Eco friendly and themed destination will also provide Marine Research Facility for the visitors to enjoy a truly unique experience of region’s ecology. The district will comprise on 523 hectares of space facilitating the residents and visitors with luxury residential waterside living, International Golf Course, Boutique Eco Hotel and Eco Center.
Island Lagoons – The Height of Cosmopolitan Style:
A spectacular view lagoon with water fronts blending with open spaces the low rise residential buildings and luxury homes will present the height of cosmopolitan style. This quiet area of Al Reem Island will be on 600 hectares of area and having 70 hectares of recreational activities.
Al Marina – The Vibrant Hub:
440 hectares of area developing as a vibrant hub of the Al Reem Island with modern day marina life and chic with cosmopolitan living. A leisure and entertainment point where residents and visitors can relax on beach side watching colorful yachts gliding. It will facilitate residents with Mediatheque, Oceanarium, boutique hotels and berthing for over 1000 boats.
